Questions people actually ask

How do seats work?
A seat is a machine. Buying Pro emails you a claim code; redeeming it inside CodeDistill issues a license locked to that machine. Buy 5 seats, redeem on up to 5 distinct machines — re-redeeming on the same machine (a reinstall, a renewal) never costs a seat.
Does it phone home?
No. The license is checked entirely offline — the only network moment is the one-time redemption that issues it. After that, CodeDistill runs with zero calls out: your code, your items, and your license checks all stay on your machine.
What happens when a license expires?
Nothing dramatic. You get a heads-up banner for 30 days before expiry, and if it lapses, CodeDistill keeps running as the free edition — your data stays intact and readable. Renewing is one click: refresh your license from the profile menu.
What exactly is open source?
The Community Edition is AGPL-3.0 — the full local capture/classify/canvas experience, genuinely usable forever. Paid capabilities aren't feature-flagged in the open code; they live in separate paid packages.
We're air-gapped. Can we use it?
Yes — that's the Enterprise path. Licenses are hand-issued signed files you install with one command; no activation server, no internet, no phoning home. Local models via Ollama mean even the AI runs inside your walls.
